Buying Opportunities in the Hudson Valley and Catskills
Buying a home? Make sure the numbers work.
Higher inflation and corresponding interest rate increases can create buying opportunities—but the numbers still have to work.
When borrowing becomes more expensive, some buyers step back. For buyers who can comfortably afford the payments, less competition may mean more room to negotiate on price, repairs, or closing costs—depending on the property and local market.
Sellers are also reducing their asking prices, and buyers have more inventory to choose from. With more options and greater room to negotiate, prepared buyers may find opportunities that were harder to come by in a more competitive market.
That doesn’t make every listing a bargain. Consider the full cost of ownership, and make sure the purchase works at today’s rate without depending on a future refinance.
Buying in the Hudson Valley or Catskills? Work with your lender and real estate agent to evaluate the numbers, and involve your attorney early to help guide the transaction from contract through closing.
